Artist’s Description: As I sketched the inspiration for this painting on paper downtown Los Angeles, I thought about how I wanted to make a film about my process of making art. I just didn’t know how. Within 20 minutes a man I’d never seen before walked up to me carrying a camera on his shoulder and asked if he could make a video of me sketching for his Vimeo channel. Artist’s Description: Amongst the bustling pedestrians on my first trip to Hong Kong, I found a universal message in a sea of colorful signs to which I was foreign. The couple on the corner held hands which immediately connected me to their story. The man carried a red shopping bag which evoked a sense of nostalgia in me for recent times spent in southern China, since it was most common for plastic shopping bags to be red verses the white ones we have in the US.

I laughed with myself a lot the day I took the photos that inspired “Wilshire 1 & 2.” The historic structure of the Beverly Wilshire Hotel caught my attention on a passing drive, and I stopped to take a few photos. The intention to take a few photos turned into an hour of me snapping pictures of traffic and feeling as though I had won the lottery each time a yellow cab drove thru my camera frame. I love yellow taxis.

In looking at both Soho 1 & 2, there is a place where the image overlaps. I generally associate different places and scenes with color, that’s how I express my feeling about the energy. This scene felt copper colored.
