Although I went to Hong Kong alone, when I captured the photo that inspired this painting, the buzz of the city energy kept me company. There were lights, taxis and double decker buses in most directions, which gave my eyes much to digest. The first layer of this painting is a lime wash inspired by the neon glow of the street signs. I remember the moment that I discovered I could wet my paintbrush in a nearby puddle. I felt so resourceful. I fell in love with umbrellas on that day.
