About Quilted Cities:

This collection contains layers of acrylics and oils, compiled over
multiple days, weeks and months. Many stories live within the
stages of these paintings. Some began with a completely different
intention, while others originated from swatches of color upon color
influenced by the tides of my days. I may work with only one color
on particular day… partly because I don’t want to keep washing my
brushes …or feel strongly the need to for a certain color. I give
attention to one painting or multiple paintings, adding green to all
the creations in my workspace that might need green before moving
on. The process of watching the paint move across the canvas and
change color brings me much joy, especially if I get to be in the
sunshine, seeing the colors in full light…even if only for a few
minutes. If my day does not contain hours to paint, adding bits of
love to each work allows me to keep the focus away from how much
work I get done, and find freedom in the moments I choose to paint. I
call this collection “Quilted Cities” because the process of piecing
together snippets of color to create something bigger reminds me of
quilting. Quilters, however, usually have a plan, and these
paintings develop a little more randomly. They are like my own
little puzzles to solve as I try to figure out what shades work
together.
