I spent the summer of '99 working in Tokyo. I took several photos in the section of town called Harajuku, where young people dress in crazy ornate costumes. This girl fascinated me because she blended traditional and punk looks. The photos lived near my art supplies for years before I painted this.

"Owen's Song"
2004, oil on canvas, 28" x

I met the musician Owen Casey in my favorite Irish Pub in Wiesbaden, Germany. I craved a freedom I thought I'd find dancing on a beach in Spain with braids in my hair. Instead I found a freedom that summer when Owen asked me to sing in the pub. His artistry and spirit moved me during a time when I felt disconnected from other artists. Seriously check out his music on the links page.
